Glasgow Caledonian University offers two distinct routes to the DipSW. There is a three year full time undergraduate route that was designed to meet the needs of people with family commitments.
In addition to the undergraduate route there is also a two-year full time postgraduate course. Whilst studying towards the Diploma as a postgraduate it is also possible to undertake further work which would lead to the award of an MSc in Social Work. The University of Paisley website is : http://www.paisley.ac.uk
The DipSW course at Paisley University is embedded within a four year 13 week undergraduate applied social studies degree. This means that on completing the course successful students will receive the Diploma in Social Work and a BA(Hons.) in Applied Social Studies. Students initially enter the University as applied social studies undergraduates and then during their first year apply to study social work in years 2 through 4. The University of Strathclyde offers two distinct routes to the DipSW. The first of these is a generic DipSW course, similar therefore, to that offered in the other 3 West of Scotland Universities. It is part of a three-year undergraduate programme, which means that successful students obtain both a Diploma in Social Work and a BA in Social Work.
The second and newer route is for students interested in working in residential child care on completion of their studies. It is also part of a three year undergraduate course, and successful students obtain a Diploma in Social Work (Residential Child Care) as well as a BA in Social Work.
